Job Advert Summary PURPOSE:

• To perform all required activities to make sure that the work area is declared safe for the workforce.

Minimum Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:

• Grade 12/Standard 10 Technical (Essential/Minimum)

• Certificate Mine Blasting (Essential/Minimum)

• Skills Program: Competent Person A (Essential/Minimum)

• Skills Program: Gas Testing (Essential/Minimum)

• Certificate: Basic Management Program (Essential/Minimum)

EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years Experience as an Operator in open pit mining environment Importance: Essential/Minimum Involvement: Operational REQUIREMENTS:

• Psychometric Assessment (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)

• Certificate of Fitness (Essential/Minimum) (To be conducted by Exxaro)

Duties & Responsibilities The incumbent will inter alia be responsible for the following: Effective People Management

• Manage and plan activities of his crew

• Give out clear, precise, and understandable instructions

• Provide swift and clear feedback to the crew

• Convey all management instructions and standard communication

• Manage the leave roster for his/her crew

• Schedule people for training in time to avoid standing equipment

• Ensure that employees in his/her team adhere to all health, safety, and environmental rules, regulations, and standards

• To keep daily attendance register of workers up to date and give it to the foreman

• Address all unsafe practices/potential hazardous situations, rectify and report to the foreman Functional Duties

• Inspection of all relevant working areas

• Daily recording on the safety declaration book and record deviations

• Ensuring that all equipment has operators as required

• Ensuring that shift changes occur as per procedure Inspection and Control

• Responsible to ensure that all operators check their equipment before they use it and that they complete the pre-use inspection book daily and correctly

• Check pre-use inspection books and sign them once every shift

• Ensure that all operators have relevant documentation to ensure compliance with standards Operational Optimisation

• Adhere to planned operational schedules

• Optimize time spent on operational execution

• Ensure optimal use of available resources, both people and equipment

• Track equipment utilization and report on areas of improvement

• Track shift production targets to be achieved

• Assume responsibility for the quality of work Operational Support

• Assist the foreman and team members with a variety of tasks when requested and instructed within the field of competence

• Provide assistance to co-pit workers and subordinates

• Control and oversee area operations

• Perform and complete operational tasks

• Adhere to area-specific work standards

• Interpret and communicate area plans, operational and production targets

• Receive instructions and plan for operational execution

• Monitor operations and processes, conduct inspections, and rectify sub-standard performance/conditions

• Report on quality of work and adherence to safety and design standards Safe and Healthy Work Environment

• Adhere to all health and safety practices and promote good housekeeping on an ongoing basis

• Address all unsafe practices and potential hazardous situations, rectify/report to superior

• Comply with Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC) and technical requirements
